After tasting success by playing a family man in Papanasam, Kamal Haasan is back this Diwali as the bad cop in Thoongaavanam. Our Our correspondent from BollywoodLife is reviewing the film right now and seems to be enjoying every bit of this action thriller. Here’s what he has to say:
"Unlike usual Indian flicks, which take a lot of time to establish the plot, Thoongaavanam gets to the point from the word go. Kamal Haasan plays a corrupt cop named Diwakar, who is divorced and shares custody of his teenage son with his wife. He along with another cop plan a drug heist by stealing the package in an early morning road encounter. Dhiraiviyam(Kishore) and Mallika(Trisha) are two cops investigating the heist. Soon, Diwakar gets a call from drug lord Vittal Rao( Prakash Raj), who informs him that he has kidnapped his son and would return him only when he returns his cocaine bag. Diwakar now has to go to Vittal Rao's night club Insomnia to deliver the bag and free his son. But Mallika and Dhiraiviyam are behind Diwakar's every move. Will Kamal manage to save his son?
Kamal Haasan plays his part very well. He not plays the corrupt cop act to the T, but also manages to shine in the clumsy father act. Trisha is incredible as the hardened cop sans any makeup. Prakash Raj is fantastic as the drug lord, who is both comic and dangerous. The action in the film is very realistic and stunts in the film are not choreographed. Despite the film being linear without any big suspense, Thoongaavanam is a racy and interesting affair. Lets see how the second half turns out."
