Even before Christian Bale became the stylish and classy Batman or Ben Affleck made it cool to show Batman as a tired superhero, it was Adam West who ruled the roost. The actor was everyone's favourite Batman and still is. But now that Batman is gone forever. Adam West breathed his last on Friday night in Los Angeles. It definitely came as a shocker to many.
There are memories attached to West if you talk about the fans of 1960s Batman series on TV. They remember his voice, his mannerisms and even the way he used to get on with his superhero activities. Despite the surge of new actors taking up the mantle of the caped crusader for the big screen, Adam West was never forgotten. He also found new fanbase when he lent his voice to Mayor Adam West on Family Guy which became pretty popular. It was a recurring role which went on for many seasons. According to Variety, his Batman role became his undoing because roles options for him got limited.
When Variety asked him about being a Batman before, he had said, "Money. Some years ago I made an agreement with Batman. There was a time when Batman really kept me from getting some pretty good roles, and I was asked to do what I figured were important features. However, Batman was there, and very few people would take a chance on me walking on to the screen. And they’d be taking people away from the story. So I decided that since so many people love Batman, I might as well love it too. Why not? So I began to reengage myself with Batman. And I saw the comedy. I saw the love people had for it, and I just embraced it.”
His fans will surely mourn this loss dearly.
