CBFC should only certify, not censor, says the court
Udta Punjab controversy number 1- Were Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor uncomfortable around each other at the trailer launch of the film?
Udta Punjab controversy number ‘stopped counting’- Will Bombay HC side with the makers over censorship?
Past weeks’ headlines were majorly stamped with Udta Punjab controversy. After CBFC levied 94 cuts on the realistic film, makers had no choice but to knock the doors of the court. The order to imply cuts has even been accused of being politically motivated. Well, the Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor starrer film is set in Punjab and talks about the drug problems, and its electoral campaigns are going on in the state currently, so even if it is true, it won’t be a surprise. The court’s decision will be out on Monday but according to reports the Bombay HC is siding with the makers of Udta Punjab.
A journo live tweeted the hilarity that ensued in the court room, and the comebacks thrown by the judge are pure gold. At one point the judge, in defense of the film, said, “Film industry is not made of glass that you need to "handle with care."” Well, score 1 for creativity! While it is great to see HC favouring the film, we are eagerly waiting for the final verdict. Here, read on the entire live update by the journalist who couldn’t help but share what all was happening inside the court.
The entire film fraternity is standing in solidarity with the film, with celebs openly bashing the censorship by the board.
