Age has never been a criteria to these Bollywood actresses....
The news of veteran actress Urmila Matondkar's marriage to a small town Kashmiri model Mohsin Akhtar Mir came as a surprise . It is an uncanny co-incidence that Urmila got married just a couple of days later than her contemporary, Priety Zinta in a low key ceremony. As we look back in hindsight, we find many examples of our Bolly heroines choosing to settle down much later in life. Guess age has never been the criteria for these actresses to 'settle down'. Here are a few recent examples.
Priety, who is 41 now, got married to a financial analyst Gene Goodenough in a hush hush ceremony in Los Angeles a couple of days ago. He is several years her young to her and is as non-filmy as he gets! Priety's relationship with tycoon Ness Wadia had rocked B-town once upon a time, things turned sour and Gene came along like a proverbial knight in shining to save Priety from the disastrous after effects of her affair with Ness. Now, they are Mr and Mrs. Once bitten twice shy Preity has always been extremely guarded with her relationship with Gene and even took to Twitter recently to defiantly clear air about her relationship and marriage plans.
Vidya got married to UTV head honcho Sidharth Roy Kapur in 2015 when she was about 35 years old. Unlike Priety or Urmila, who chose young men, Vidya married Sidharth who had got divorced twice before meeting her. The Kahaani actress has been married for four years now.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Touted to be the most beautiful woman in the universe, Aishwarya had the world at her feet when she decided to marry a couple of years younger Abhishek Bachchan nine years ago in an elaborate ceremony at the Bachchan's bungalow Prateeksha. Aishwarya was about 33 at that time. She delivered her daughter Aaradhya in 2011 when she was 37. You see how our Bollywood beauties are defying proverbial biological clock?
Rani Mukerji's affair with Yash Raj Film's head Aditya Chopra was an open secret in the industry. She fiercely protected her relationship with the reticent Adi till she got married in Italy in 2014. She was 36. Rani naturally fit into the role of a rich producer's wife and promptly delivered a baby (Adira) last year. As told by her to an international fashion magazine, she had always wanted babies and a believed in a very conventional idea of marriage and that she wanted to gladly enjoy marital bliss and have a successful filmy career as well.
Urmila Matondkar's marriage to Mohsin Akhtar Mir yesterday was a sudden surprise to the industry wallahs. Younger to Urmila by a decade, Mohsin belongs to a business family in Kashmir.
These examples sure prove that age is not a binding factor to love or to get committed. If one tries to analyst the reason why would Bollywood actresses choose to get married late, one can have one explanation that they would want to concentrate on career as sadly there is a notion that the industry and masses do not accept married actresses easily. It would be interesting to know that while most actresses prefer to get married late, there is someone like Kajol who got married at 24 and at a time when she was one of the most sought after heroines! Kareena Kapoor too made it very clear after her marriage to Saif Ali Khan that she does not intend to work less just coz she is the Begum of Pataudi .
