Varun Dhawan's October released last Friday to a lot of expectations. We aren't talking about the box office here, as of now. Critics heaped praise on the film because it is one of those rare movies that make you ponder, mull and wonder about life. But the audience wasn't too kicked about the film. We also shared public's opinion on the film with you. While teenagers found it to be boring, many others liked it too. But the divided reactions are definitely affecting the film's box office collection. In three days, October has only earned Rs 20.25 crore which is far below that of Badlapur (Rs 23.5 crore). The reason we are comparing October with Badlapur is that they both belong to the same genre of intense and gritty movies. They are also a departure from what Varun Dhawan is known for. October even has him playing a guy who is slightly indecisive about why he is doing what he is doing. Guess that alienated the audience from the film to some extent. Check out the latest box office collection of October...
Badlapur was a Sriram Raghavan film while October is a Shoojit Sircar presentation. There is a reason why Badlapur can be considered more commercial than October. First it had a kick-ass energetic song like Jee Karda, then there was romance in the film initially, and also the film was pacy. That gave every section of Varun's fans something to look forward to. October, however, is only banking on performances. No commercial element has been added to the film because the story doesn't warrant it. But Badlapur and October almost had a similar screen count. While Badlapur got 1700 screens, October got 1638 screens in India.
