Bollywood clearly is in the spin-off zone when it comes to songs, leaving little space for originality. Old songs churned out with new foot-tapping music is rage, but there are few takers for it. We recently saw Karan Johar re-create yesteryear hit Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani for his upcoming venture Student of the Year 2 and we are all hearts for it. However, there have been a few remixes which are low on entertainment. We ran a poll for you’ll to vote which remix was least appealing in the first quarter of 2019, and Sonakshi Sinha’s Mungda has emerged as a clear winner.
Mungda - Total Dhamaal 30 per cent
Original - Tu Mungda (Inkaar) (1977)
The original song from Inkaar was weaved into the narrative and forms an important part of the movie. Whereas, Sonakshi Sinha's remix version of Mungda was just another blind shot at adding a hit number to the film. And it sort of ruined nostalgia for us. With 30 per cent votes, this song clearly got a thumbs-down from the audience.
Tu Laung Main Elaachi – Luka Chuppi
Original: Laung Laachi title song – Laung Laachi (2018)
It's clear that people still prefer originals over the re-created tracks. Laung Laachi was picturised on Neeru Bajwa, Ammy Virk and Amberdeep while the remixed one saw Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon romance to the track in Luka Chuppi. The Bollywood remix is packed with some uber cool moves but fetched a second spot on our list with 27 per cent of votes.
Poster Lagwa Do – Luka Chuppi
Original: Ye Khabar Chapvado Akhbar Me – Aflatoon (1997)
From steps to lyrics this recreational track had little to do with the original song from Aflatoon featuring Akshay Kumar and Urmila Matondkar on a railway station. With unoriginal choreography and the addition of ringing a bell in the song, this remix was a disappointment. Poster Lagwa Do earned votes to the tune of 25 per cent.
Paisa Yeh Paisa – Total Dhamaal
Original: Paisa Yeh Paisa – Karz (1980)
The original one featured Rishi Kapoor and he totally owned the performance. However the remix, which was picturised on the ensemble cast of Total Dhamaal was not much liked. With just 18 per cent of votes, this song ranks fourth in our list of least impressive remixes. Total Dhamaal has four songs in all total, out of which two are recreated tracks.
While filmmakers will never stop re-creating old classics, we’ll continue to cheer for those we liked.
