It will be a three part biopic
After completing Kahaani 2 and Begum Jaan, Vidya Balan will start prepping up to take on the role of the celebrated poet, Kamala Das in a three part biopic made on her life.
The film will be directed by the noted Malayalam director, Kamal. As this is a Malayalam film, Vidya Balan is brushing up the language with the help of a tutor, SreeDhanya who is also a Malayalam actress.
Interestingly, Vidya Balan is from Kerala, but as she was born and brought up in Mumbai, so is not much fluent about. Another interesting fact is that Vidya Balan was supposed to make her movie debut in a Malayalam film with Mohanlal and Dileep, but the project didn't take off.

Coming back to the film, Vidya Balan will be playing Kamala Das, who was earlier known as Madhavikutty who converted to Islam at the age of 67 and changed her name to Kamala Surayya. She will start shooting for the film by the end of this month. The film will focus on her marriage at the age of 15, and how her writing on sexuality made her stand out from the peers.
Another trivia: this will not be Vidya Balan's first Malayalam film (that didn't get shelved). She played a cameo in Prithviraj's Urumi, where she even spoke Malayalam.
