When Bodhi Tree Productions introduced the show – it was like a breath of fresh air in a sea of regressive shows
Nisha Aur Uske Cousins was initially a story about these seven siblings who’d do just about anything for each other. Each one of the cousins had a trait that was highlighted in every episode. Dolly (Purvi Mundada), Umesh (Meherzan Mazda), Kirti (Heli Daruwala), Nisha (Aneri Vajani), Suketu (Parv Kaila), Jwala (Barbie Jain) and Bunty (Nikunj Pandey) were supposed to be central characters to every plot that happened in the show. The show was also about Nisha being the core connect of the cousins, but from where I see now it seems to be more of just a love story and nothing more.
Why are the makers concentrating so much on Buaji (Tuhina Vohra) and her evil and conniving plans to ruin Viraj (Taher Shabbir)? Why did they turn Dolly’s husband Summit (Paaras Madaan) into a power and money hungry person, who no longer cares about anyone else but himself and his ego? When Summit’s character was introduced in the show, he was also one among the cousins; what changed him to go this negative?
Viraj’s back story stated that he was always alone and paralysed waist down, but his will power brought him back to an active life. However, now the character seems to be this loser who has only one aim – Nisha. What happened to uplifting women and fulfilling his father’s dream of Lakshya Academy – or is that no longer important?
The whole focus of the show now seems to be on property issues, Nisha’s married life and Kabir’s (Mishkat Verma) family background. Yes, it is cute to see Nisha and Kabir discovering their feelings for each other, but that definitely cannot be the whole basis of the show, no? This whole concept of contract marriage is so convoluted and difficult to digest, especially coming from Nisha, who believes in life long relationships.
Frankly, Nisha Aur Uske Cousins is losing its charm; I yearn to see the siblings back together tackling issues like they did in the beginning. It still remains as one of my most watched shows, but I don’t know how long these feelings last.
