The record is safe for now...
BollywoodLife was the first one to report that Akshay Kumar is the only male superstar to have a hattrick of Rs 100 crores hit in a single year and how Shah Rukh Khan will be the only one to break the record in 2017, for he is also be having three releases in a single year after more than a decade. And King Khan fans were rejoicing to see their favorite star back to all his glory he rightly deserves. Then came a tweet from Red Chilies' official Twitter handle and all dreams of the fans were shattered.
The tweet read, "Excited to announce our film with @aanandlrai & @iamsrk in association with @cypplOfficial. Releasing Dec 21, 2018.Title to be revealed soon!" As was expected fans of the star went into frenzy and when the dust settled it was clear, there's gonna be only two releases of Shah Rukh Khan in 2017, which is much awaited Raees, releasing on Republic Day weekend, alongside Kaabil. And, Imtiaz Ali's next tentatively titled The Ring, reportedly to be released on Independence Day weekend, alongside Akshay Kumar's Crack.
Rumor has it, that the much delayed release is due to the fact that SRK will be playing the character of a dwarf in the movie and is gonna be huge on VFX work.
The year 2016 saw the resurgence of Akshay Kumar at the box office with the hattrick of Rs 100 crore hits and saw a rare roadblock in the career of Shah Rukh Khan with a disappointment in Fan, which couldn’t even reach Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office. This year started on a high note for Akshay with Airlift (Rs 128.1 crores) doing well both critically and commercially. It entered the Rs 100 crore club domestically. A few months later, he gave another Rs 100 crore hit domestically with Housefull 3 (Rs 109.14 crores). The actor was back again on silver screen with one of his hottest movies in trade circles, Rustom. This was his third movie this year and it touched 100 crore as well. And with that Akshay created the record of being the only top male star to deliver three back-to-back Rs 100 crore films in a year. No Khan in Bollywood has ever achieved this feat as no other actor releases more than two movies a year and that stands corrected as of today.
As reported by BollywoodLife earlier Akshay Kumar has created a new record in 2016 which even Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan couldn’t break and looks like the record’s safe for now. Shah Rukh Khan was the only one who was considered to break the said record with three releases but now that they have announced the official date well more than two years in advance for Christmas 2018, SRK will be having only two releases in 2017, if he doesn't come on board and shoot a quickie in between The Ring's shoot and dwarf movie's one, which is highly unlikely. So, Khiladi Kumar is gonna remain the only actor to have that record. Time for some celebrations for Akshay Kumar fans.
