After those 40 cuts, will there be anything left to watch in that movie?
Udta Punjab's troubles with Censor Board are getting worse by the day!
After we had reported that Censor Board is not allowing the film to pass thanks to the excessive swearing in the film, as well as visuals of drug abuse, we have learnt now that the Board has recommended 40 cuts for the film. If the makers agree to these cuts, then only will the Board allow to pass the film!
40 cuts! No matter what Amitabh Bachchan has to say in this matter, that Censor Board works under the rules and regulations of government, we can't agree for the fact that a film that is deemed to get an Adult rating need to have so many cuts! These cuts will apply to scenes where swear words are used, and also scenes where Shahid Kapoor who plays a drug addicted rockstar, is shown using substances. Strange, for a film that is about rampant drug abuse, the people doesn't want them to show these scenes!
Last heard, the producer of the film, Anurag Kashyap (who, of course, is Censor Board's favourite stepchild!) has appealed to the tribunal as well as the I&B Ministry to get this resolved asap! However, we certainly do not expect the film to go cut-free by the end of all these matters. It's really worrying that films like Udta Punjab that have such a strong social content at its core has to face these issues. Substance abuse in Punjab is quite a notorious matter, and has been a point of discussion during several election campaigns, so the makers have the guts to tackle on the issue heads on!
With those recommended 40 cuts, we wonder what will be left of the film!
