While every 90s kid is familiar with the magic Shah Rukh Khan spun as the king of romance in films, a few of us have missed out on the time when he ruled on TV. For every TV actor out there, SRK is the ultimate inspiration. Dil Dariya was his first TV show but the ones that made him a household name were Fauji and Circus. He has done other shows like Wagle Ki Duniya, Umeed, Doosra Keval too but Circus is perhaps the most popular one. The show aired in 1989 and was about a circus troupe owned by Shekharan, a Malyalee who wants to sell it off but later gives up on the idea. He was paired romantically with Renuka Shahane on the show.
Circus went onto became a cult show and marked the first of many collaborations between Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah. Actor turned director Ashutosh Gowarikar and Mita Vashisht were also a part of it. Fans of SRK who want to see how he took his baby steps into the TV industry can now watch Circus. The show will be telecasted once again on Doordarshan from February 19 at 8pm. This superb piece of news was shared by Doordarshan today and actress Renuka Shahane was quick to react on the good news on Twitter.
We are unsure if Shah Rukh Khan is aware that Circus is coming back on TV. Fans of the actor should rejoice as they will get to see a very young SRK showcasing his acting prowess. Post Circus, Shah Rukh Khan made a foray in Bollywood with films like Dil Aashna Hai and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. The show has a fabulous story with realistic drama. People who lament the scourge of Naag-Naagins on Indian TV can definitely watch Circus to remember the golden era of Indian Television.
Talking about TV, Shah Rukh Khan had earlier told the Hindustan Times, "What I have been made to understand is that TV’s reach is extending into the heartland of India more than ever before. So, TV series [now] are actually turning to those kind of stories (subjects that audiences from India’s interiors can relate to), which is very interesting.” Will King Khan's return on TV encourage younger audiences to watch Circus...do let us know?
