Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has joined the star cast of Ashutosh Gowarikar's Panipat which also features Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt. The Ashutosh Gowarikar directorial revolves around the third battle of Panipat which took place on January 14, 1761, and it was fought between the Marathas and the invading forces of the king of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali, supported by two Indian allies- the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab and Shujaud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh. Panipat went on floors in December last year. Padmini Kolhapure, Mohnish Bahl and Kunal Kapoor kickstarted the shoot in Mumbai, which was followed by a marathon schedule in Rajasthan.
Confirming Zeenat's role in Panipat, the filmmaker informed Mumbai Mirror, "Zeenat ji will be seen in a cameo as Sakina Begum, a feisty
character leading her province of Hoshiyarganj. Her character lives within the confines of her kingdom, aloof from the politics of the region, till Arjun’s Sadashiv Rao Bhau turns to her for help."
Ashutosh Gowarikar was his co-star in Gawaahi was all praise for the Don actress as he said, "Anant Balani directed that film (Gawaahi- 1989) and went on to make Patthar Ke Phool (featuring Salman Khan and Raveena Tandon). It is an honour for me and a fan moment to be directing Zeenat ji. There are many of her films that I have loved and especially her work in them. Her humility despite her stardom is fascinating."
On a parting note, the filmmaker revealed that Zeenat Aman will join Panipat's shoot by the end of this week. "Her look is something that I cannot reveal as of now, but I am really excited about it and can’t wait to start shooting with her," he said.
Earlier, in an interview with us, Kriti Sanon had shed light on her role and said, "For me, it is very interesting to play a Marathi character that too belonging to a different era. And for the first time, I am playing someone who exists in reality. I don't know Marathi at all. It is a Hindi film but it has Marathi words here and there-- which are colloquial, commonly used. I did learn the language from a tutor named, Ketki. I would like to sit with her during my every scene and learn how to pronounce different words and add more on my own."
Panipat is scheduled for December 6 release and it clashes with Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh Remake.
