The two films have an uncanny resemblance in the storyline. Check out what Tiger Shroff's papa dearest has to say about it...
Jackie Shroff's character in Akshay Kumar-Jacqueline Fernandez-Sidharth Malhotra's latest release Brothers is earning him a lot of accolades. With the film being a superhit, he is flooded with new movie offers. He is all set for the release of his next Chehere. So what is the story of the film all about? We wonder...
Sources confirm that Jackie's next film Chehere is a modern day classic which also stars Manisha Koirala, Gulshan Grover, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Aarya Babbar and Divya Dutta. It's a period film, and that is something which excited Jackie to take up the movie. Chehere is written and directed by Rohit Kaushik. If being a period film was all, we wouldn't have said something, but when asked about the characterization both Jackie and the film's director gave out details, which sound pretty similar to the Hollywood flick The Artist. So what did Jackie say about the film's plot?
"The story of Chehere captures the time when the film industry was going through the dramatic change from silent films to talkies. A fascinating journey which affected the lives of many cine stars. The past is beautifully captured in black and white and the images bring back memories of our yester-year cinema. Which is why it became more interesting for me to do this film" said Jackie. The Brothers star will play the role of a silent era actor director producer.
Talking about the film director Rohit said, “Film’s B&W portions are shot in India, and colored portions are shot in London. The essence of the film are the people, the masks they wore, the lives they lived and the turmoil they faced, in a society structuring itself. The deception, the deceit, the passion and the will to survive unfolds in the film. Filmed in colour and black and white, it captures the period and emotions. Chehere is cinema within cinema. It is a psychological thriller set in 1952 in England, it is a drama of pure essence captured on celluloid, it plays with the inter-relationships of the main cast in the film. Our Protagonist, Tarana, brought to life by Manisha Koirala is a silent era star who did not find her footings in the talkies cinema and moves away to UK and lives in a huge mansion with her sister and a retinue of domestic help. The film unfolds under many dimensions and the characters are human but exist with many facades and faces, that somewhere down the line holds true for all of us. It is a classically mounted film. The canvas is musical, tense and as the film progresses the mystery deepens and the ending shocks you.”
The film professes to be a journey about the transition from the silent era to the talkies, pretty much similar to the Hollywood Oscar winning film The Artist. For all of you who have seen The Artist, you will know how similar these two stories sound. Now we don't know a lot about the plot of the film, but from where we stand, it surely looks like an Indian take on The Artist. What do you think BollywoodLifers?
