Kim Soo Hyun has been accused of dating Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. According to the claims, the actor was in a romantic relationship with the late actress when she was just 15 years old, and he was 27.
The controversy intensified after Kim Sae Ron’s tragic death on 16 February 2025, which was Soo Hyun’s birthday. Sae Ron's family accused Soo Hyun of manipulating and taking advantage of Sae Ron. Also, they claimed that the duo had been in a relationship for the past 6 years.
Not only this, but the YouTube channel GaroSero also released private chats between Soo Hyun and Sae Ron. It also leaked romantic pictures of the alleged couple, claiming it to be from 2016.
Amid the controversy, Soo Hyun held a press conference on March 31 in which he revealed his side of the story. At the conference, he was seen fighting with tears as he denied claims of dating Soo Hyun when she was underage. However, his emotional story fell flat with the public, and they mocked him and called his crying crocodile tears.
Sae Ron’s family recently held a press conference in the presence of GaroSero's CEO and their legal representative. At the conference, the released audio claimed to be of Sae Ron, in which she revealed her intimate details. However, soon the matter took another turn after the whistleblower changed his statement.
Despite all the controversy, Kim Soo Hyun's popular hit drama Queen of Tears managed to please audiences. The show has won the award in the 'K-Drama Series of the Year' category at the 6th VP Choice Awards.
Queen of Tears won the award, beating several popular shows nominated for the category, including Lovely Runner, Love in the Big City, Family By Choice, Judge From Hell, and Marry My Husband.
Apart from this, Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won also won the title of 'K-Drama Couple of the Year' at the 6th VP Choice Awards. The duo shared screen in their popular show Queen of Tears. Rumours of them dating, after the show, also made headlines, but it was soon shut down.
