South Korea's National Forensic Service has released its official investigation report regarding the leaked audio recordings of the late actress Kim Soo Ron, as reported by Koreaboo. The report has sparked concern and fear among the public.
According to the police, on December 15, 2025, the NFS stated that it was unable to determine whether the audio recordings were created using AI or had been tampered with in any way. The investigation's conclusion was therefore inconclusive.
These recordings were made public in May during a press conference by the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute and the lawyer representing Kim Soo Ron's family. In the recordings, Kim Soo Ron claimed to have dated actor Kim Soo Hyun when she was a minor.
Kim Soo Hyun's legal team immediately denied the allegations, claiming the audio was a fake recording created with the help of AI or other advanced technology.
According to media reports, the NFS investigated the recordings at the request of the police. However, due to the unavailability of the original files and technical limitations, it was impossible to determine whether the voice was authentic or AI-generated.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner Park Jung-bo stated that the investigation is nearing completion following the receipt of the forensic report, and a final decision on the case will be made soon.
Following this inconclusive result, concerns about AI have been raised on social media. Many people expressed fear that if even a government agency cannot distinguish between truth and falsehood, the misuse of AI could escalate. People also commented that AI-related crimes could increase in the future, making it even more difficult to gather concrete evidence in such cases. Meanwhile, Kim Soo Ron's side has also presented forensic evidence related to KakaoTalk chats.
