Kim Soo Hyun secures 3rd place in the weekly male actor rankings by Star Ranking, amid ongoing controversy. Amid multiple lawsuits faced by the actor, there seems to be a new addition to the list.
Kim Soo Hyun has been faced with personal and professional setbacks since becoming embroiled in a dating scandal with the late actress Kim Sae Ron. The actor has been accused of dating Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. Reportedly, Soo Hyun was in a romantic relationship with Sae Ron when she was just 15 years old and he was 27.
Though Kim Soo Hyun clarified their relationship in a press conference and emotionally denied any relationship with the late actress when she was a minor. However, his tears fell flat on people, and they called it crocodile tears.
Amid the growing controversy, the Queen of Tears star faced numerous professional setbacks, and many popular brands ended their contract with Soo Hyun, including Prada. The luxurious international brand Prada dropped Soo Hyun as their ambassador and appointed a 19-year-old American-Korean idol as their new face.
Also, Disney + announced an indefinite pause to the production of upcoming Korean drama Knock Off featuring Kim Soo Hyun in the lead. Reportedly, if this Disney+ series gets canceled, Soo Hyun may face a penalty fee ranging from $15 million to $75 million.
Amid the high-profile controversy, the actor’s position in the entertainment world seems to be unaffected. Reportedly, Kim Soo Hyun ranked 3rd in Star Ranking's weekly male actor poll, securing 11,546 votes in the 110th round, surpassing Kim Nam Gil, who previously held the spot. Now, it seems he's facing another financial setback.
A couple of days ago, two unnamed advertising companies filed a lawsuit against Kim Soo Hyun, seeking damages of approximately 30 billion KRW, which is about $20.9 million, due to breach of contract.
Now, as per reports in Koreaboo, Kim Soo Hyun has been sued by a third advertisement company for the same. The third company has filed a lawsuit against Soo Hyun and his agency seeking 2.8 billion KRW, which is around 2 million USD, for breaching an advertisement contract.
Earlier, lawyer Park Sung Woo opened up about the matter and said, Kim Soo Hyun has signed advertisement model contracts with 15 brands, each valued between ₩1.00 billion KRW (about $696,000 USD) and ₩1.20 billion KRW (about $835,000 USD). Usually, companies are reluctant to make it known that they were the first ones to file a lawsuit (against their model). But once one company files a lawsuit, more can be expected to join later on.
