A netizen previously claimed to be incarcerated in the same prison as Kris Wu. He posted on Weibo that a prison guard informed him that Kris Wu had died a few days ago. He said that Kris was attacked by a gang and was killed because he failed to comply with the gang leader's demands.
Another rumor claimed that Kris Wu had gone on a hunger strike in prison and his health deteriorated to the point of death. A photo was also shared with these posts, showing an inmate and a guard, but the source of the photo was unclear.
Following the rapid spread of these rumors, Chinese police themselves came forward and denied all these claims. The police clearly stated that Kris Wu is alive and serving his sentence in prison. They warned that spreading such false news is a crime under the law and could result in severe action.
South Korean media outlets MHN and Sports Chosun have now reported that Kris Wu is alive. They quoted the Jiangsu Provincial Police Department as saying that Kris Wu is living normally in prison and that reports of his death are completely false.
Police stated that the photo circulating online is fake. It was created using a screenshot of an old news report, replacing the face of a real inmate with Kris Wu's. This means the image is completely doctored. Police issued a strict warning, saying, “Do not disseminate unverified information. You may face legal penalties.” They say that false news circulating online not only misleads people but also impacts law and order.
It's worth noting that Khris Wu's sentence was confirmed in 2023, and he is currently serving his prison sentence. Rumors about him continue to circulate, but the police have once again clarified that he is alive and that rumors should be ignored.
