He’s the only child of R Madhavan and Sarita Birje, born on August 21, 2005. Vedaant turns 19 this year, but instead of following his dad into films, he’s chosen swimming. He’s carved out a reputation that’s entirely his own, separate from his father’s fame. He finished school at Universal American School in Dubai.
Vedaant got serious about swimming at a sports club in Mumbai, and in 2017, he joined Glenmark Aquatic Foundation. That’s a CSR program aimed at prepping Indian swimmers for world-level competition, and it paid off quickly. He started representing India in national and international meets, and he’s been stacking medals ever since.
March 2021 was a turning point. Vedaant grabbed a bronze at the Latvia Open, his first big international prize. That same year, he dominated the Junior National Aquatic Championships, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes. Suddenly, everyone was paying attention. After that, he just kept picking up speed.
At the 48th Junior National Aquatics Championships in India, Vedaant won 4 gold medals and 3 silvers. He also smashed records by clocking 16:01.73 in the 1500m freestyle, an incredible time for Indian juniors. He’s not just winning; he’s raising the bar for everyone.
Last year, at the Malaysian Open, Vedaant made sure people knew his name. He swept 5 gold medals across every freestyle distance, 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and 1500m. It was a perfect run, and it proved he’s ready for even bigger competitions. India was proud, and he earned his spot as a true international contender.
Now, he’s aiming higher. With junior championships under his belt, Vedaant is training hard for the Olympics 2026. The transition from junior to senior level isn’t easy, but he’s shown he can handle the pressure. He’s focused, ready to represent India at the top level.
Swimming isn’t everything for Vedaant. He’s loved animals since he was a kid. On one birthday, he asked his parents to donate to an animal shelter instead of buying him gifts. He advocates for vegetarianism and against cruelty, and secured PETA’s Compassionate Kid Award because of it.
R Madhavan’s clear about not wanting his son compared to other celebrity kids. On Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, he said those comparisons hurt, memes might be fun, but people don’t realize the bigger impact. He knows the family name grabs attention, but he wants Vedaant’s victories to tell their own story. And honestly, they do.
