As per Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 100.10 crore net in India. As per the trade reports, L2 Empuraan earned Rs 1.75 crore net on Monday. The total of the film is around Rs 100.10 crore net in India.
The film’s collection has slightly dipped as compared to its first week. The film has been the highest-grossing film at over Rs 250 crore worldwide in Malayalam.
The film opened to Rs 21 crore net in India and made Rs 88.25 crore net in its first week. On Friday, the film collected Rs 2.9 crore and made Rs 3.35 crore and ₹3.85 crore over the weekend.
Prithviraj took to his Instagram as he announced that L2 Empuraan is one of the few Malayalam films that crossed Rs 80 crore gross in Kerala and the first to bring in a worldwide share of Rs 100 crore.
Mohanlal returns as Stephen Nedumpally, aka Khureshi Ab’raam in L2 Empuraan. Andrea Tivadar, Jerome Flynn, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kishore, Nyla Usha and Eriq Ebouaney play interesting roles in the film.
L2: Empuraan was in news after right-wing groups criticised the film for its alleged depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots. Mohanlal issued a statement on Facebook and wrote, I have come to know that some of the political and social themes that have come into play in the film Empuran, the second part of the Lucifer franchise, have caused great distress to many of my loved ones. As an artiste, it is my duty to ensure that none of my films harbors hatred towards any political movement, ideology or sect.
The responsibility lies with all of us behind the film. Therefore, the Empuran team and I are deeply sorry for the distress caused to my loved ones, and with the realization that the responsibility lies with all of us behind the film, we have decided together to remove such subjects from the film, the actor added.
