Though the Met Gala is a star-studded event with high-profile celebrities and social media stars but the event has strict ‘No Phone’ police. One will never see any inside photos, videos, social media posts, or stories from the Met because of the strict rule.
Anna Wintour ensures that the Met Gala is the highlight of fashion events, where guests showcase impeccable style, elegance, and smell. Some of the food items are banned from the Met Gala’s dinner menu to prevent celebrities from having bad breath or poor photos. The item includes onion, garlic, and parsley. Also, messy dishes like bruschetta are not served to guests.
Once the guests are inside the Met, they are strictly prohibited from smoking. Not even the most powerful celebrity and influential personalities of the world is allowed to break the rule. This is because the stylish, designer clothes might be damaged or have the smell of smoke.
Despite being an invite-only event, Met Gala attendees, including celebrities and A-listers, pay for their seats. Each seat and table has its price tag attached to it. According to reports, individual tickets cost around $75,000, while tables can go for $350,000 or more.
Vogue editor Anna Wintour herself approves the outfits of the celebrities. Even after paying for the seat and following the rule, celebrities might get in trouble if the outfit for the exclusive event is not approved. The practice is so common, it even has its acronym: AWOK, meaning “Anna Wintour Okay”.
According to Ward Durrett, director of special projects at Vogue, a lot of planning and thought go into deciding who sits where and next to whom. Notably, spouses are never seated next to each other, and instead, people are encouraged to make connections. This important work is done by the end of December.
