In the entertainment industry, many actors and actresses came from different backgrounds; some came from very privileged families, but for some, it is a whole different story. However, their performance is what counts.
However, this particular actress has a very powerful background in the industry, and started the entertainment industry at a young age of 12 to save her family from financial burden, which was quite young despite her age.
In her starting days, she was mocked and judged for her weight and dark complexion. In her school, she was called ‘the fattest girl’ and ‘the ugly duckling’ by many of her colleagues. Despite this, she became one of the successful actresses.
The actress we are talking about is none other than Rekha. She was born on 10 October 1954 in Madras. In her career, she has acted in more than 180 films and is the recipient of several accolades, including one National Film Award and three Filmfare Awards.
Rekha was the daughter of actor Gemini Ganesan and Telugu actress Pushpavalli, who are known as stalwarts of South Indian Cinema. Despite being a star kid, the actress grew up without her father and later became a liability for her so that she could support the education of her siblings.
In an interview with Simi Garewal, Rekha talked about her parents and shared her relationship with them. The actress also revealed that she had no childhood memories of her father as he left her at a very young age.
Despite this, Rekha’s mother used to share stories about her father and encourage them. However, Rekha’s mother was always busy with the film schedules, and most of her childhood was spent with her grandmother.
Rekha’s life took a turn when she met filmmaker Mohan Segal, who helped her a lot in the industry. However, it was not her choice to enter the industry, but rather because of the financial hardships.
