Actress Sangeeta Bijlani is still recovering emotionally from the burglary at her Pune bungalow earlier this year. The break-in left her shaken and distressed, and she openly admitted that the experience has had a lasting impact on her mental well-being. Months later, the trauma continues to linger as she grapples with the fear of feeling unsafe in her own home.
While attending an award function in Pune on October 11, Sangeeta revealed that she personally met with SP Sandeep Singh Gill. She made a direct request to speed up the investigation into the robbery at her home. Her plea wasn’t just procedural, it came from a place of deep emotional concern and a desire to feel secure again.
The burglary took place at her bungalow located in Tikona Peth, Pavana area of Pune. Thieves entered through the rear of the house and stole a television and cash from the first floor. The house had been unoccupied for four months, and the theft was discovered on July 18 when Sangeeta returned around 9:30 a.m.
A case was registered at the Lonavla Rural Police Station soon after the incident. Despite the formal complaint and investigation, the culprits are still at large. The lack of resolution has only added to Sangeeta’s anxiety and disappointment over the slow progress.
Sangeeta shared a powerful statement during her media interaction, saying, “I do feel very unsafe as a woman living in my own home.” For someone who has lived in that house for 20 years, the sense of violation and vulnerability is personal and deeply unsettling. Her words have resonated with many, especially women living independently.
Long before she became a household name, Sangeeta Bijlani began her modeling career at just 16. In 1980, she was crowned Miss India Universe and represented India at the Miss Universe pageant in Seoul. She even won the Best National Costume award, with the outfit designed by her mother, Poonam Bijlani.
Sangeeta made her Bollywood debut in 1988 with Qatil, opposite Aditya Pancholi. She quickly rose to fame with films like Tridev, Jurm, Yodha, and Hathyar. Her versatility and screen presence made her a sought-after actress in the late '80s and early '90s, working with top directors like Mahesh Bhatt and J.P. Dutta.
Her final film appearance was in the 1996 action thriller Nirbhay, alongside Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, and Paresh Rawal. After that, she largely stepped away from the limelight. Now, unfortunately, she’s back in headlines not for her work, but for a distressing personal ordeal that no one should have to go through.
