'Xtreme City,' a gritty cross-cultural thriller produced by Martin Scorsese, nearly had Shah Rukh Khan and Leonardo DiCaprio in what may have been one of the most famous Bollywood-Hollywood collaborations ever.
Although the concept generated excitement throughout the world, director Paul Schrader revealed that creative control was the tipping point. Shah Rukh is the boss, Schrader said, describing how SRK generally assigns many directors to work on various scenes, including action, romance, and musicals.
Schrader states that SRK was not accustomed to working with a single director, particularly not in a Western project. “He had never really worked under the harness of an auteur... and he had never been a second banana to somebody like Leo before.”
According to reports, SRK started to become tired of playing a secondary lead in a Western setup and losing complete control. He changed his commitment from firm to provisional, which made DiCaprio's involvement fade as well. The project eventually fell apart.
Paul Schrader disclosed in 2024 that the three titans- SRK, DiCaprio, and Scorsese- met to talk about the movie in Berlin. SRK was supposed to portray a Mumbai gangster, with DiCaprio playing an American officer who confronts him after saving his life in India.
Schrader even contemplated recasting SRK with Salman Khan, but decided against it out of respect: If SRK found out, that would have killed it for SRK. In the end, the movie never advanced into development, and we were never able to see our King's epic collaboration with the Inception star.
According to a source that NDTV cited, Shah Rukh Khan was not injured on the sets of his upcoming thriller King. He has had injuries on several previous filming sessions, some of which might occasionally recur. He visits the United States often for care and therapy.
