One of the greatest actresses in the history of Telugu cinema, Soundarya ruled the screen on the late 90s and early 2000s, with several hit films like Ammoru (1995), Pavitra Bandham (1996), Anthahpuram (1998), Raja (1999), Doni Saagali (1998), Dweepa (2002) and Apthamitra (2004).

In 1992 Soundarya made her debut with the Kannada film Baa Nanna Preethisu. She entered the Tamil film industry in 1993 with Ponnumani, in which she portrayed the role of a mentally disabled person. Her performance in the film received widespread appreciation from both audience and critics.

In the late 90s, she starred in several hit films, including Arunachalam alongside superstar Rajinikanth and Choodalani Vundi alongside Chiranjeevi. The film Arunachalam went on to become the highest-grossing film of 1997 and even shared screen with Amitabh Bachchan in the 1999 Bollywood film Sooryavansham.

However, things always go as planned, when Soundarya was at the height of her career a tragic incident occurred. On April 17, 2004, the actress lost her life in a plane crash along with her brother, Amarnath. As per report, they were travelling to Karimnagar for election campaigns on behalf of Bharatiya Janata Party. She died at the age of 31.

Soundarya who died at 32 was pregnant at the time, suffered severe burns in the crash, leaving her body charred beyond recognition. According to reports, Soundarya had properties worth Rs 100 crore when she died.
