Vidya Balan became an overnight sensation with her role as Avni and Manjulika in one of the superhit Bollywood’s horror comedy films Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Her dual role and performance was highly appreciated by people.
With Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Vidya Balan became a household name. The film was released on October 12, 2007 and was directed by Pruiyadarshan. The film became a box office hit with its worldwide collection.
Vidya Balan made her Bollywood debut with much-praised film Parineeta starring along with Saif Ali Khan and Sunil Dutt. Within two years of her debut, Vidya was casted in horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa alongside Akshay Kumar.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa featured Ameesha Patel, Shiney Ahuja, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, Vikran Gokhale along with Vidya Balan and Akshay Kumar. The film was a hindi remake of 1993 released Malayalam language film Manichitrathazhu.
Avni and Manjulika’s role can’t be imagined with Vidya Balan but interestingly the role was first offered to Aishwarya Rai but she rejected it with the confusion of playing a haunted character. Rani Mukherji was also offered the role but she was least interested in it and eventually Vidya got the part.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a box office hit. It was made with a reported budget of Rs 32 crore and went on to earn over Rs 82 crore worldwide. Second and third sequels of the film have also been released, starring Kartik Aaryan.
