The release of the controversial film Udaipur Files, which stars Vijay Raaz and is based on the June 2022 killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, has been delayed for several weeks due to censorship issues. All revision petitions contesting the film's CBFC certification have now been rejected by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), paving the way for its release. The movie released today, August 8.
The MIB stated in its order that the filmmakers had completed the additional voluntary edits for the film's release in addition to complying with the 55 cuts mandated by the CBFC. Additionally, the Ministry emphasized that no fresh data or convincing arguments had been shown to support reversing the certification.
Maulana Arshad Madani, the president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, and one of the the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case petitioned the Delhi High Court, claiming that the Udaipur Files, formerly known as Gyanvapi Files: A Tailor's Murder Story, discredit Muslims and would interfere with the accused's right to a fair trial.
In broad daylight, two guys viciously murdered Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Furthermore, a video of his decapitation went viral on social media, sparking uproar across Rajasthan.
Riyaz Attari and Ghaus Mohammad are the main accused in the case.
The son of slain Kanhaiya Lal, Yash Sahu, expressed his happiness over Udaipur Files getting final clearance from the MIB.
Kanhaiya Lal's son told ANI, ..On 8 August, the whole country will see what happened to my father. The pain of our family will be seen in how my father was killed... The whole country should watch this story... We have won the battle we were fighting...
He further said, What is shown in this movie is against terrorism and not against any religion... My father's case remains the same today as it was three years ago. His killers have not been punished yet... We don't know how long it will take for us to get justice...
