When Rekha reached the stage, the then President Neelam Sanjiva Reddy asked the actress why she still fills her hair partition with sindhoor. The actress handled the situation in classic Rekha style, with grace. She explained that in the city she comes from, applying sindoor in the parting is common, and it’s fashion.

When Rekha was asked on Simi Garewal’s show what “Bhanurekha” wanted to do, she said she definitely did not want to become an actor. She wanted to get married and settle down. She explained that she doesn’t know why, but she wanted that.
