The death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong has taken a darker turn, sparking widespread outrage and demands for a thorough investigation. Here's a new update.
On the morning of September 11th, renowned Chinese actor Yu Monglong fell to his death from a height in Beijing's Sunshine Upper East residential area. This death remains shrouded in mystery. Many claims have surfaced online that he was murdered because he resisted the unfair pressure of some powerful figures in the film industry.
Actress Sun Lin has been continuously calling for justice for Yu Monglong. Recently, she shared an eight-word poem on social media. When combined, the first letters of each line of the poem spelled out: “I am a poet; the photo isn’t mine, please don’t comment.” The first character of each line in her poem, read vertically, forms the message: “Yu Menglong has been wronged, please file a case.”
Sun Lin has written emotional messages many times before. On September 11th, she wrote, “Don’t worry, we will never forget you. We had promised to have a meal together in Beijing—how could it end like this? I hope you are well over there.” On September 14, she stated, “Rest assured, your fans will help reclaim fairness for you. Justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent.”
On September 17, she wrote, “So scary! Who are they threatening? The first day of safety.” On September 19, she wrote, “I’m so scared.” On September 21, she reported that a flower pot was thrown at her while she was out picking up a package, resulting in her hospitalization. Despite this, she stated that she would not give up the fight for justice.
A large number of people are also demanding justice for Yu Monglong online. On September 20, a global petition was launched by the international organization AVAAZ, demanding an independent and transparent investigation into the case. As of October 4, approximately 198,590 people had signed it, demonstrating that the case has garnered attention not only in China but worldwide.
Meanwhile, several major international media organizations have covered the case. The BBC, in its report, raised several questions about the official version. The American magazine Foreign Policy wrote that if the death of a famous actor like Yu Menlong can be so easily suppressed, how can ordinary people have any hope of justice? This has further embroiled China's image in controversy.
People on social media are saying that this is not just a case of one person's death, but a profound blow to society's security and justice system. Some netizens wrote, Every time I think of a noble person falling into darkness while the guilty roam free, my heart breaks. Many are writing with a mix of anger and sorrow, promising that this time they will expose the truth.
