The mysterious death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong (Alan Yu) on September 11, 2025, has set off a wave of discussions on social media and has caught the attention of people beyond the Chinese borders.
A political storm is still raging around the unexplained death of Chinese actor Yu Menglong, better known by his stage name Alan Yu. A top public security official has been openly accused by a self-proclaimed “Red descendant” online going by the name Lin Beichuan of “protecting” the people responsible for Yu's strange murder.
The sensational whistleblower message, which featured images and Lin's true identity, was swiftly banned on Chinese social media, but not before it allegedly made its way to the top ranks of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Zhongnanhai.
Lin Beichuan has kept a close eye on the case since Yu died on September 11 in a Beijing luxury high-rise. He previously drew government notice for his advocacy of Yu, which resulted in his half-month-long detention in Beijing.
Yu's death was quickly ruled a sad incident caused by a night of heavy drinking, but the strange circumstances have sparked a surge of activists, industry peers, and netizens demanding responsibility and a full inquiry.
On October 25, Lin published a post accusing a key figure in the case: “The person I reported is the only one who’s ever been specifically and directly accused,” he wrote, adding, “I nearly reported him face-to-face.” Shortly afterward, he added a follow-up message on a backup account: “He’s the real protagonist — the artery. Anyone who mentions him will be targeted. Everyone else is just a decoy or a scapegoat.”
The photographs attached to his post were swiftly removed by Weibo's (China's equivalent of Twitter) automated censorship system, but users noted that the name Wang Xiaohong- China's Minister of Public Security- began appearing in the comments before they were also erased.
Lin warned followers from his backup account on October 26, saying, “If I go silent for a long time, or suddenly post something against my will — that’s not me. It means I’ve been controlled.” He continued: “If something really happens to me, this account won’t post again. I will never compromise, and I will never speak words against my conscience. No one can help me — you can only wait patiently for me to come back.”
On October 28, two days later, Lin's primary account was muted and his backup account was suspended. Since Beijing was his last known location, many people on the internet assumed he had been arrested once more. Vision Times was informed by an individual with knowledge of the matter that Lin Beichuan's claim had reached high levels of the Party.
