Suriya's wife Jyothika’s comeback flick, 36 Vayadhinile has finally hit the screens today. Our critic Subramaniam Harikumar is watching the movie in a theatres right now and here's what he has to say about it.
"The remake of How Old Are You, 36 Vayadhinile, tracks the life of a middle aged woman Vasanthi played by Jyothika. Vasanthi works in Revenue office, but is also a loving homemaker and doting mother. After a surprising turn of events, Vasanthi gets an opportunity to meet the President of India. But the anxious Vasanthi faints at the sight of Indian President. Soon she becomes butt of all jokes and gets ridiculed wherever she goes. Soon her husband informs that he has got a job in Ireland and their teenage daughter will pursue her studies in Ireland. But since her visa plea was rejected, Vasanthi reluctantly lets go off her daughter to Ireland. With husband and daughter off to Ireland, will Vasanthi finally live for herself and pursue her dreams? Will she prove her family that she is much more than just an average Indian housewife, who prefers to sacrifice her dreams for the well being of her family? Coming to the performance, Jyothika is back and...how! She lights up the screen everytime she appears on-screen. With vivid expressions and spunky energy Jyothika is incredible. But alas she is let down by over the top, melodramatic treatment of simple story. There are enough instances in the film which made me feel like watching daily soap. I understand that the makers wanted to tell a story a la English Vinglish, but somewhere the story gets lost in the excessive melodrama. Hope the film picks up in second half."
