2018 was an experimental year in Tollywood with quite a few fresh subjects were explored by young filmmakers. One of these films was C/O Kancharapalem which was directed by Venkatesh Maha and featured newcomers in all roles. The film received several awards and was screened at numerous film festivals before getting an official release. Post release, C/O Kancharapalem received huge accolades from audience and critics. The film is now being remade in Tamil and Malayalam, according to latest reports. "I don't know about Malayalam but the Tamil remake is in pre-production at the moment. They will even begin shoot next month or so with Hemambar Jasti helming the remakes," director Venkatesh Maha was quoted as saying by Times of India. If remade, the film is expected to receive similar response in those languages too.
Directed by newcomer Venkatesh Maha, the cast of C/O Kancharapalem is filled with newcomers, who have never faced a camera before in their lives. The film is produced by a New York based cardiologist, Praveena Paruchuri, who has no connections in the film industry.
The story of C/O Kancharapalem is set in Kancharapalem, located in the coastal city of Vizag. Going by the response to the film, it addresses misogyny, caste issues and many other rural issues that common people face in their daily lives. Director Venkatesh Maha is being lauded for roping in people for the film, who did not have any acting background in the past. In fact, it is being reported that the cast of the film are common men from the locality of Kancharapalem who have nothing to do with films.
