Malayalam filmmaker Sreekumar Menon on Thursday 5th December was arrested and later freed on bail by police after questioning in the complaint against him filed by actress Manju Warrier.
Warrier, also the first wife of superstar Dileep, last month submitted a complaint with Kerala Police chief Loknath Behra, alleging that Menon was trying to defame her and that she feared for her life. She also submitted digital evidence in support of her accusations.
Behra later handed over her complaint to the special cell for preliminary investigation.
Menon, whose arrest was recorded on Thursday night, was given bail on surety of two personal guarantors.
He later said that what he did with good intentions was interpreted wrongly.
Menon has directed Warrier in Mohanlal-starrer "Odiyan" as well as in several popular ad films with Manju in the lead role.
He also mentioned then in his Facebook post, how he had been instrumental in Warrier's success in the Malayalam film industry.
"I will open up, once I feel like it. Whatever I did out of goodwill to protect, later turned out as trespassing the freedom," said the Malayalam film Director Sree Kumar Menon after being led out by the court.
“I have explained my stand to police and my statement has been recorded,” said Sree Kumar Menon.
Police had registered a case against the director in October by actress Manju Warrier for allegedly threatening and defaming her on social media.
On October 22nd she registered the complaint to Kerala police chief Loknath Behera. The case was registered under various Indian Penal Code sections including 509. The actor has also sent a letter to the Film Employees Federation Of Kerala (FEFKA) about her police complaint against Menon and sought its support
