2020 just keeps getting worse. Popular Tamil film producer V Swaminathan passed away at a Chennai hospital on Monday due to Coronavirus. He was recently admitted in a private hospital after testing positive. He was 67 and is survived by his elder son and younger son Ashvin Raja, popularly known as Kumki Ashvin.
"Swaminathan had tested positive for coronavirus 10 days ago and was admitted to a private hospital. His immunity became very low a couple of days ago and yesterday afternoon, he breathed his last. He was 67. His body has been cremated as per government rules. Though several people in the industry had tested positive for the coronavirus, Swaminathan is the first casualty," TOI quoted a source as saying.
V Swaminathan produced numerous movies under his banner Lakshmi Movie Makers. His first production was Sarathkumar starrer Aranmanai Kaavalan, he had produced Kamal Haasan's Anbe Sivam directed by Sundar C. He worked with director Sundar C the most, in five films which include Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga, Unnai Thedi, Kannan Varuvaan and Ullam Kollai Poguthae continuously between 1999 to 2001, besides Anbe Sivam in 2003.
Many celebrities from the industry, including Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and director Ponram, and moviegoers offered their condolences. Director Ponram wrote on Twitter, “Had heard heartbreaking news about the loss of V Swaminathan sir. My deepest condolences to his family. A very humble person. May your soul rest in peace.”
“Shocking #Swaminathan sir,” wrote Shanthanu.
He had been in the industry for more than two decades and backed many film stars such as Karthik, Ajith, Vijay, Kamal Haasan and Suriya.
