The actor has received a lot of flak for his band's dismal show at 35th National games
For over three and a half decades, Mohanlal has been one of the most revered artists in Malayalam film industry. Fondly called as Laletan, the Malayalam film star has been the face of Malayalam cinema to the world. But all that hard work and respect, went down the drain when the Peruchazhi actor was charged with corruption.
Mohanlal's new band performed at the 35th National games, amidst great fanfare. But the lackluster and uncoordinated performance by Laletan's band, rose to a major row, as rumours erupted that Mohanlal has charged Rs 2 crore for the show. Even though the visibly hurt actor denied of taking any sum, a section of media still hurled corruption charges on Mohanlal for taking the money and not delivering what was promised.
All this while the sports minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan did not bother to clear Mohanlal's name and instead decided to keep mum on the issue. CPIM secretary, Kadakampally Surendran spoke in support of Mohanlal, slamming Radhakrishnan for not disclosing the truth that the actor had not charged a penny for the show, except for the band expenses. According to Mr Surendran, Mohanlal has been cheated by the sports minister.
Looks like this Lalisom fiasco is refusing to die down, as parties have started to use Mohanlal's name for political mileage.
