Actors immortalising a role only for the audience to later learn that they were never the first choice for the roles is nothing new, especially in Indian cinema. Our country's cinematic annals are littered with stories of how, sometimes, four to five other actors were often approached or discussed for being cast in an iconic role, before the eventual candidate, more often than not a relative unknown or newcomer at the time, went on to etch her/his name in film history after essaying that character. The latest to join this bandwagon are Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey as we've now learned that neither were the initial choice for their parts in the cult Telugu blockbuster, Arjun Reddy.
As per reports, it was another young and dashing Telugu hero, Sharwanand, who was approached to paly the eponymous role in the fil, but due to reasons still unknown, he couldn't be a part of it, after which the character went to Vijay Deverakonda, and as they say, the rest is history. Prior to Arjun Reddy, Deverakonda was an up and coming hero in the Telugu film industry. Post the movie, his star-power skyrocketed, and he has never looked back since.
Ditto for Shalini Pandey as Parvathi Nair was the first choice for her part in the same film, with the revelation coming from the latter herself, who had earlier admitted in an interview to turning it down on account of being apprehensive over the intimate scenes, but later regretting her decision. Funny are the destinies in cinema, right?
