Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Geetha Govindam is one of the most loved Tollywood films in recent times. While we can't imagine any other actors to play lead roles, you will be surprised to know that Vijay was quite hesitant to pick up the character of Vijay Govind earlier as he never wanted to do this kind of genre.
The Arjun Reddy star told The New Indian Express, “Geetha Govindam is a hilarious entertainer that has me playing a character called Vijay Govind. When I watched the film in the edit suite, I realised that the story has universal appeal. My brother and director Parasuram’s son were in splits watching the film. It’s a genre I never wanted to do as I’m comfortable doing only urban stories. But it was my producer, Bunny Vasu, who convinced me to sign it with intent to connect me to a wider audience.”
In an old interview with The News Minute, Rashmika revealed that she was scared of Vijay and said, “Nothing has changed. I was scared when I first shot with him as I’m scared of new people. But then, Vijay is a very chill fellow and I found it easy to work with him. Shooting for this film was easier as I knew his frequency, his vibe and it was easy to match up to it – I didn’t even have to try as we’ve been friends for quite a long time now. Our characters rub off on each other and the best part about our friendship is that I don’t have to try hard to understand the guy."
On the work front, Vijay Deverakonda will be next seen in his first pan-India film, which is directed by Puri Jagannadh. According to Mumbai Mirror, Vijay Deverakonda underwent hardcore training and followed a strict diet to prepare for his character. The Arjun Reddy star also visited Thailand to learn mixed martial arts and various other fight forms. In the film, Deverakonda will be seen flaunting six-pack abs. Apart from Vijay, Fighter will also feature Ananya Panday, Ronit Roy and Baahubali star Ramya Krishnan in pivotal roles.
