Dhanush's Karnan has finally released in theatres today. The fans of the Shamitabh actor had been waiting to watch the action-drama film for such a long time. And now that it is out they cannot stop heaping praises for the Mari Selvaraj directorial film. They have been calling Dhanush's performance as his career-best one and hailing the film as national award-worthy. They have even compared it to Dhanush's critically and commercially acclaimed Asuran saying that Karnan has surpassed Asuran in terms of performance. For those not in the know, Karnan has been released following the COVID-19 rules of 50 percent occupancy at the theatres. Talking about the Karnan movie, apart from Dhanush the film also stars Lal Paul, Yogi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Rajisha Vijayan, Gouri G. Kishan and Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli to name a few. Meanwhile, it recently caught in a controversy when the song Pandarathi Puranam had released. A case was filed against the makers of Karnan by a resident of Subramaniapuram, Madurai called Prabhu stating that the lyrics of the song were insulting to some people belonging to a certain section of Tamil Nadu. He requested the ban of Karnan entirely till the song was removed from the film. The court had asked to send legal notices to director Mari Selvaraj and the producers. Seeing the backlash following the same, Mari had changed the title of the song from Pandarathi Puranam to Manjanathi Puranam. He had released an official statement saying, “The impact of certain names on our social stratification psychology is incomprehensible and unavoidable. Based on that we have decided to end the hurt and controversy by rechristening Pandarathi as Manjanathi. Manjanathi will now be the leading light for Yamaraja. Now Karna will sing the Manjanathi Puranam to make Yama dance.
