Bollywood top star Kangana Ranaut will step into the shoes of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in her biopic which will be directed by AL Vijay. The film has been titled Thalaivi and was announced recently by the makers. Director Vijay says that Kangana is the right choice to play Jayalalithaa and it is important that a top star like her plays the important politician. "I think a leader of Jayalalithaa's stature cannot be limited to one region. She is a national leader, and commands huge respect. This is a pan India film, and Kangna is apt for the role. She is one of the biggest stars in India today and I think it is right that a top star plays the role of an important politician. We consider this a pan-Indian film, not a regional one. There was a lot of discussion before the decision was made to cast Kangna; we met several people as well. She is extremely excited about the project and wants to portray her with utmost honesty. She is learning Tamil for the film and will also be part of a one-month workshop to get into the character," Vijay was quoted as saying by Times of India.
This will be Kangana’s second cinema in Tamil after Dhaam Dhoom which starred Jayam Ravi in the lead role and was directed by Jeeva and PC Sreeram. The film was a remake of 1997 American drama Red Corner.
