Karthik Subbaraj, not only one of Tamil cinema's, but among Indian cinema's best Directors working today, recently sat down for a heart-to-heart with us to discuss his upcoming production, Penguin, starring National Award winner Keerthy Suresh, which is about to release on a major OTT platform. Inevitably our exclusive interview veered toward other topics, given the sterling repertoire he has amassed in a short time, and the ace filmmaker soon disclosed his plans on directing Superstar Rajinikanth in Petta 2, the sequel to the actor's biggest hit and most well-received film in recent times.
Opening up on the possibility of Petta 2, Karthik Subaraj said, "Not while making the film. While making the film we didn't have anything in mind about that and all (a sequel). But after it released, it got quite interesting the way the fans thought about it (possibility of a sequel) and kept asking and even suggested the way it should go. The message us with their ideas of Petta 2 on social-media platforms, which were all quite interesting. Some even came forward with theories of possibles stories for Petta 2. As of now, I wouldn't say that I have a story of Petta 2. But it could happen in future."
Speaking about how the climax of Petta had shades of Quentin Tarantino's works, Subbaraj added, "I would say I was inspired from Tarantino. I wanted to have some moments there (in the climax), which we see in his films. And I think that's there in all his films, be it Kill Bill, or Django (Unchained), that big shootout in the end. So, yeah definitely it was there. And I always get inspired by Tarantino, Coen Brothers, Martin Scorsese. I love them al lot, I revere them."
Well, fingers crossed that karthik Subbaraj directs Thalaivar Rajinikanth again in Petta 2.
