In an era where filmmakers are ready to experiment, it is frustrating to see the same old story of politics and corruption hitting the big screens
You don't need big stars for box office success these days. Despite of lack of known faces, Dhanush's children's film Kaaka Muttai wowed the audience with its engaging content.
And when you know you have a weak script, you better have a big star playing the lead to bail the film from box office failure. But unfortunately Pugazh neither has a star studded cast nor an interesting story line. At least that's what the trailers suggest. Pugazh starring Jai and Surabhi seems to be a story about fight of a common man against corrupt system and politicians. And we very well know that this plot is far from being novel.
Jai seems to be playing a care free youngster who loves the playground in his area. When politicos try to grab that land by unfair means, how Jai fights them off seems to be the story. Jai has given some decent hits when he has been a part of multistarrers, but as a solo hero he has failed time and again. And Pugazh doesn't seem like the film which would change his fate. Surabhi is barely there in the trailer and there seems to be no real chemistry between her and Jai. There are the usual done to death fight sequences which are thrown at us in the trailer. The only thing I liked about Pugazh trailer is Mervin Solomon & Vivek Siva's background score filled with rock beats and electric guitar riffs. But alas nothing else seems barely interesting in this cliche ridden film.
