Dhanush, Karthi, Bobby Simha pack a punch with punch lines!
Kollywood has seen a string of hits in recent weeks and what’s got the audience in splits and claps are the punch dialogues!
Karthi’s movie Madras had numerous punch dialogues. Two of the best ones that the audience applauded in theatres were when the scrawny character Johnny (played by Hari) told the beefy villain, “Tha paaru, Johnny single punchu than unnaku!”
Another memorable dialogue in the flick was when Kaali (Karthi) says, “Evangu tamizh tamizhnu pesitu irrupaangai; anaan jaadhi madham nu vandhaa kathiya thookidu vaangai.” This was obviously a dig at the political scenario in the state.
Dhanush’s Vellai Illa Pattadhari also had some memorable lines. When Dhanush says, “Vanukku maatum hero peru Karthik, ennaku mattum villain peru Raghuvaran”, the audience was all applause and whistles. It was indirectly as ode to actors Karthik and Raghuvaran.
A movie on cricket, Jeeva, has its own set of punch lines. Vishnu says in the film, “Mathai naatulai ellaam players ku chance kadachu thaan thothuporaangai; namma naatulai thaan chance kedaikamiyay thothuporangai.” Given the state of cricket and match-fixing issues in our country, it’s no surprise that this featured in the film.
Jigarthanda was another film that was appreciated by the audience not just for the script but also the performances. Bobby Simha says in the movie, “Ennaku chinnai vaiyasile irundhu rowdy aganum girai oru aasai, oru virupam.” And this rowdy made the movie unforgettable!
