Come 2020 and Indian cinema will showcase a long list of films with some big-budgeted ventures like Shamshera, Chhapaak and Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior. And giving competition to these Bollywood projects are a few South biggies, resulting in a tug-of-war situation at the box office. SS Rajamouli's RRR, which features two top stars of Tollywood, Jr NTR and Ram Charan, is all set to clash with Shamshera which features Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vani Kapoor, the film is directed by Karan Malhotra. With release dates outs, we have compiled a list of South films which can be a threat to Bollywood in 2020:
Darbar versus Chhapaak and Taanaji:
Rajinikanth has collaborated with AR Murugadoss for the first time in Darbar. To be produced by Lyca Productions, Darbar is all set to release in 2020 and it is expected to hit the screens alongside Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak, which is currently one of the most-anticipated films in Bollywood. Chhapaak is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and Deepika Padukone will be seen playing the central role. Mirzapur actor Vikrant Massey will essay a crucial part in the film. Ajay Devgn's Taanaji is also expected to release along with this big-ticket project. The film will be based on the life of Tanaji Malasure and also features Saif Ali Khan and Kajol, the film will be directed by Om Raut. With three big projects releasing together, a whole lot of money is riding on this clash.
RRR versus Shamshera:
Baahubali director SS Rajamouli has brought together two top stars of Telugu cinema, Ram Charan and Jr NTR, for his next project which is titled RRR. Said to be a period drama, RRR will be made on a mammoth budget of Rs 350-400 crore. And clashing with this big-budget film is Shamshera, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor. Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera is produced by Aditya Chopra and is expected to be a Bollywood crowd-puller in 2020. RRR also also boasts of Bollywood connection with Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn playing pivotal roles. Both the films promise a whole lot of action and have settled for July 30, 2020. It remains to be seen if either of them will bow out of the race or face the competition head on.
While Bollywood movie buffs would have ample options to choose from in 2020, South industry is chipping in more options to make it an exciting season at the box office.
