Kamal Haasan and Sarika had decided to part ways after 16 years of marriage. The couple had tied the knot in 1988 and divorced in 2004. The two had two daughters Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan together. Shruti was a teenager when her parents got separated. The Salaar actress recently opened up about her parents' divorce and said that she was glad that they parted ways since they weren't getting along with each other.
"I was just excited for them (her parents) to live their own lives. I was glad they separated as I do not think two people who are not getting along, should get along for some reason. They continue to be wonderful parents. I am particularly close to my dad. My mum is doing well and is a part of our lives as well. It actually panned out for the best," Shruti told Zoom in an interview.
Shruti said that she is closer to her father and her mother is a part of her life. She dubbed them as wonderful parents. "They are both uniquely wonderful and beautiful people. They were not that beautiful together anymore. That does not take away their individual beauty as human beings. When they separated, I was very young, and it was very simple, they were happier apart than they were together," she added.
A few days ago, Shruti had spoken about working despite the pandemic since she pays her own bills and for the same, she has to go out and work. Despite being the daughter of legendary actor-politician Kamal Haasan and actress Sarika, Shruti is fiercely independent and loves to stay on her own terms. She also said that the limitations only made her realize her privileges. After the shoots were stalled due to the nationwide lockdown, Shruti invested her time in creating music and conducting photoshoots.
Shruti believes being a public figure, she can easily be misunderstood. However, she hopes to continue to speak her mind with confidence irrespective of what people perceive of her. She will soon be seen in the Prabhas starrer Salaar, which is being shot in Kannada and Telugu languages, and will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam.
