With another Friday on the horizon, it's time to plan your weekend schedule, and if you're a diehard movie-buff like us, then checking out the new releases of the week would be high on your agenda, if not the first on your to-do list. So, let's first check out the South films set to hit screens this Friday. We have one major movie each from Kollywood, Tollywood and Mollywood that will be vying for your attention, and each of them star big names likes Mammootty, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Nithya Menen, Ravi Teja and Aditi Rao Hydari. Here are the South Movie releasing this week:
1.) Shylock (Malayalam) Director: Ajai Vasudev
Cast: Mammootty, Meena, Rajkiran, Siddique, Baiju Santhosh, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Ajai Vasudev
Synopsis: A kind, large-hearted man locks horns with a vicious moneylender in this family entertainer. VIDEO
Reasons to watch: As much as his fans love him in serious roles, there's no denying that watching Mammootty in massy films like his recent release Madhura Raja has a neverending, and Shylock looks set to cash in on the hysterical mass image of the megastar. If it gets all the ingredients right, be assured that both multiplexes and single screens will be set on fire.
2.) Psycho (Tamil)
Cast: Udhayanidhi Stalin, Aditi Rao Hydari, Nithya Menen, Shaji Chen, Singampuli VIDEO
Reasons to watch: One of the most refreshing trademarks of Tamil cinema is how small, interesting films coexist with bigger, massy projects, and Psycho looks set to continue this wonderful tradition. The premise, revolving around a blind man who gets involved in a murder mystery, which in turn is based on the Buddhist tale of Angulimala, a feared serial killer, promises a cerebral ride. Plus, a cast that reads Udhayanidhi Stalin, Nithya Menen and Aditi Rao Hydari is enough to pique anyone's interest.
3.) Disco Raja (Telugu)
Director: VI Anand
Cast: Ravi Teja, Bobby Sinha, Payal Rajput, Nabha Natesh, Tanya Hope, Vennela Kishore, Satya
Synopsis: After the Indian Council of Medical Research not only refuses to acknowledge his work, but also denies him permission to continue his project, the film's prime protagonist is left with no other option but to look toward dubious means to complete his dream.
Reasons to watch: Even though Ravi Teja has been facing a torrid time of late at cinema halls, it would pay to recollect that 'Mass Maharaja' didn't get his moniker just like that, and all it takes for a big star like him to get back in the reckoning is one big film. Fortunately, the promos of Disco Raja have worked well enough to raise hopes that it could be precisely that film, which all Ravi Teja fans have been waiting for.
So, which of these three films will be your first South pick this weekend? Tweet and let us know @bollywood_life
