Kollywood superstar Suriya has responded to Meera Mitun's comment on nepotism, where she targeted the Kaappaan actor along with biggies like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Trisha Krishnan and others. Suriya shared one of his old tweets, which reads, "Let us not respond to cheap criticisms and lower our standards. Spend your time and energy to productive activities for the welfare of society #AnbaanaFans" In his latest tweet, he wrote, "I wish my beloved brothers and sisters to spend their time and energy on productive activities. My heartfelt gratitude to legendary director Bharathiraja"
Recently, filmmaker Bharathiraja condemned Meera Mitun and said in a statement, ‘Vijay and Suriya have reached such heights in the film industry with strong foundation and hard work. In this glamorous industry, they both have been living an honourable life with their beautiful family. Meera Mithun has been insulting them with her unkind words. As a senior member of the industry it’s my duty to condemn her. She has to stop her immature behaviour to gain publicity. Meera, you have a long life ahead of you. You should start working hard and change your attitude and try to achieve something in your life. I am upset that none of the film associations have condemned this act by her. I also request online media houses to stop promoting news about her insulting actors. I have also been noticing fans of stars making obscene statements against actresses. Kasthuri is a victim of such incidents. Actors shouldn’t maintain silence in such cases as it is not affecting them personally. They should discipline their fans and make sure they act accordingly without hurting others.’
On the professional front, Suriya is currently gearing up for the release of Soorarai Pottru, which marks the first time collaboration between the actor and Sudha Kongara. It was being speculated that Soorarai Pottru is a biopic on Captain GR Gopinath who found Air Deccan. However, Suriya clarified that the film is not a biopic on him but is only inspired by few events in his life. Tamil and Malayalam actress Aparna Balamurali has been signed on to play the leading lady in Soorarai Pottru. It is co-produced by Guneet Monga, who is known for bankrolling films like The Lunchbox, Masaan and Gangs of Wasseypur. Soorarai Pottru also features Mohan Babu in a key role.
