This week Lakshmi’s NTR clashed with another Telugu film Suryakantam which stars Rahul Vijay and Niharika Konidela. Directed by Pranith, the film is touted to be a rom-com and is the second film for Rahul in Tollywood. Upon release, the film seems to be receiving mediocre response from audience who feel that this routine story has nothing to offer in terms of entertainment. Audience also feel that this film is more suited to the digital segment and has no element which can keep the viewers hooked onto it. The expectations on the film were high because of the title Suryakantam which is the name of a yesteryear supporting actress who is known for playing dominant characters on screen. But all of it collapsed upon release and things haven’t gone the way the makers would have hoped they would. This film has released alongside big-ticket films like Super Deluxe, Lakshmi’s NTR and Lucifer but failed to sustain the Friday pressure. Read few tweets about Suryakantam here:

Niharika last appeared in Happy Wedding that also starred Sumanth Ashwin in other lead role. The film was a decent success and was termed a hit at the box office. The film was a remake of Marathi films Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 2 and was directed by Lakshman Karya. Niharika, in 2018, made her debut in Tamil with Oru Naal Paath Solren which starred Vijay Sethupathi in a key role. The film turned out to be a decent hit and the young actress made an impressive debut in Kollywood.
On the other hand, Rahul Vijay made his debut in films recently with Ee Maya Preremito which received rave reviews from audience and critics. Rahul Vijay is the son of popular action director Vijay in Telugu cinema who has worked with top actors like Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Balakrishna and Nagarjuna. Rahul’s first film received critical acclaim and was termed as one of the rare attempts in Telugu cinema. However, the film couldn’t fare greatly at the box office. With the failure of Suryakantam, the young actor will look to make a strong comeback with his next which is yet to be announced.
Suryakantam is produced by Nirvana Cinemas and is presented by Niharika’s brother, actor Varun Tej. The music of the film is composed by Mark K Robin who composed the OST for AWE produced by actor Nani. This is the first film for Niravana cinemas in production after being in the industry as overseas distributors for a long time now.
