For more than a year now, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TFPC) is going through rough waters with many members locking horns with current President Vishal. The objecting members want Vishal to step down from his position and are keen for re-elections. Things seem to be heating up in the association with war of words from both the parties. And in an attempt to resolve the issue, the government of Tamil Nadu has intervened and appointed an officer, in charge of the Council going forward. N Sekhar, District Registrar, has been appointed as the officer of the TFPC to take over the office till the time the issues are resolved. Sekhar was the same officer who was a member of the committee which investigated the irregularities in TFPC and submitted a report to the government. Reportedly, Sekhar will be in the position for one year and will be the decision maker of all activities related to the council.
Producer Radhakrishnan, who is a part of the opposing section of TFPC, says that he had approached the Madras High Court regarding this and these are results of their efforts. "Six months back, we had filed a criminal case in the Madras High Court complaining about the authoritarian decision-making by the TFPC President Vishal, irregularities in the producers council’s functioning, mismanagement of funds, unkept promises (combating piracy, absence of income from Cable TV), unchecked expenses and the absence of an Annual General Body meeting for a period of two years. The court then directed the District Registrar (Admin) to submit a report on the said irregularities, and if proved, to take action on the same. The committee, headed by Sekar, District Register, found several aberrations in the functioning of the TFPC on scrutiny," Radhakrishnan was quoted as saying by Cinema Express.
Vishal and the members of TFPC are yet to respond to the situation. It is unclear yet if the appointed officer will also decide whether interim elections would be held or if he will only serve for the above said period and monitor the activities of TFPC.
