Acclaimed Tamil film Jigarthanda is being remade in Telugu and has been titled Valmiki. The remake is being directed by Harish Shankar who has made films like Gabbar Singh and Duvvada Jagannadham. The shooting of the film began recently and Varun Tej has begun shooting for his portions. The latest to join the cast of the film is Tamil actor Atharvaa and Pooja Hegde. Atharvaa will be seen reprising the role played by Siddharth in the original while Varun Tej will be seen playing the role essayed by Bobby Simha. Mrunalini Ravi, another young actress from the Tamil film industry, will be seen another leading role in Valmiki. This remake will mark Atharvaa's debut in Tollywood.
Valmiki is being produced by Ram and Gopi Achanta under the banner 14 Reels Entertainment. Speaking about the film, producers say that they changed the script to suit the audience in Telugu states. "But we have made several changes to the script to suit the sensibilities of the Telugu audience. The writing and screenplay is very sharp and will give a new high to the audience. Also, Varun Tej will be sporting a new look for the film," the producers told Deccan Chronicle.
Varun was last seen in F2: Fun & Frustration which was a multi-starrer alongside Venkatesh Daggubati. The film turned out to be a huge hit in his career and made him one of the most sought-after actors in Tollywood. Varun attempted the comedy genre for the first time in his career with F2 which yielded great results for him. Directed by Anil Ravipudi, F2 also starred Tamannaah Bhatia and Mehreen Pirzada.
