Veteran actor-comedian Nellai Siva, who is known for his performances in supporting roles in various movies and television shows, passed away on May 11 after suffering a heart attack. He was 69. His last rites were performed by his family members on Wednesday in his hometown Panakudi, in Tirunelveli district. He was suffering from various age-related ailments.
His friend and members of the film fraternity took to social media to mourn his loss and express their heartfelt condolences. Actor Krishna tweeted, "One of the nicest actors I had the privilege to work with. He always telling us jokes and entertaining the crew. May his soul rest in peace ayya. #nellaisiva.”
Actor and director Radhakrishnan Parthiban shared an old interview of Nellai Siva wherein the latter opened up about getting a cheque of Rs 10,000 for acting in Tamil film Ivan and not having a bank account to deposit the money. He further revealed how Parthiban dialled a bank manager and helped him open an account. Parthiban mourned his loss while recalling his fond memories. TV actor Sujitha Dhanush also extended her condolences to Nellai's family.

Nellai was known for his appearances in Kollywood and various Tamil movies. He made his mark as a comedian in movies such as Saamy, Thirupaachi, Kireedam and Imsai Arasan 23 aam Pulikecei. His role in popular television soap Pandian Stores that airs on Vijay TV was loved by the audience. He was also seen in the television serial Mama Mapillai.
The actor made his film debut with director Pandiarajan’s Aan Paavam (1985). He then went on to star in popular films which include Mahaprabhu (1996), Vetri Kodi Kattu (2000) and Anbe Sivam (2003) among others.
He was last seen in a web series Paramapadham Vilayattu, which stars actor Trisha in the lead. The series premiered on Disney+ Hotstar last month.
