Veteran Telugu actor Gollapudi Maruti Rao, who was last seen in Aadi Saikumar's Jodi has passed away today in a private hospital in Chennai. The 80-year-old actor and scriptwriter was suffering from prolonged illness. Known for his performances in films like Swathi Mutyam and Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, Gollapudi Maruti acted in more than 250 Telugu films and had written the scripts of films like Doctor Chakravarthy and O Seetha Katha. Many biggies from the industry like Mahesh Babu, Allari Naresh and Nani expressed their condolences through Twitter.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy offered his condolence and stated, “He was known for his inimitable style of dialogue delivery and power-packed phrases in his short stories, plays and essays, the multifaceted Gollapudi, has earned a space of pride in the literary and cultural fields.” Former Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu stated that it was a big loss to the Telugu film industry and literary world and said, “As an actor and writer, his services were commendable. As a radio presenter, editor, commentator, author and actor, he was a man with multiple talents. Deep condolences to his family and fans."
